Manslaughter Charges For Contra Costa Woman Suspected In Red Light Crash

Prosecutors say alleged hit-and-run left a woman dead, triggering a high-stakes case for a Contra Costa County woman pleading not guilty.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A quiet intersection in the early morning hours turned deadly in seconds — and investigators say the driver kept going.

In Pleasant Hill, a 41-year-old woman was killed on March 8 after authorities say a driver ran a red light and struck her as she crossed the street, triggering a chain of events have led to charges for a Concord woman.

The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office charged 45-year-old Angelina Marina Solis with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, along with multiple DUI-related felonies and enhancements tied to the events of March 8.

Investigators say the crash happened around 1:49 a.m. along Contra Costa Boulevard at Taylor Boulevard, where Solis is suspected of driving northbound through a red light and striking the woman, who was walking in a marked crosswalk with a second person.

The victim died at the scene. The second pedestrian was not injured.

After the collision, the Contra Costa D.A.'s office said in a news release that Solis fled, leaving bystanders to call 911.

Officers located and arrested Solis later that morning. Investigators identified the suspected vehicle as a dark-colored Mazda SUV, discovered parked and unoccupied several blocks away in Concord.

Police allege the Mazda had damage consistent with the collision. They booked Solis into the detention facility in Martinez. She later posted bail.

The charges included gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury, driving with a .08% blood alcohol content causing injury, and leaving the scene of an accident. Three charges have enhancements: one with fleeing the scene of a crime and two for great bodily injury to the victim.

On Tuesday, Solis entered not guilty pleas to all charges.

Prosecutors assigned the case to a specialized unit focused on serious DUI cases, which reviewed the investigation and formally filed charges in Superior Court. A judge set bail at $350,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for March 27 at the A.F. Bray Courthouse.
