With DeSaulnier’s swearing in as part of the U.S. House of Representatives to replace former Congressman George Miller on Jan. 6, 2015, Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown is required to call a special election within 14 calendar days of the vacant position being created. That is, Mark Meuser will be preparing to continue his campaign to run for California State Senate. Moreover, Gov. Brown can call the election to take place anytime between Jan. 6 through Jan. 20. The elections, however, are currently anticipated to be scheduled to be held sometime April 2015.

Because DeSaulnier won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, he can no longer fulfill his duties in the California State Senate District 7and there is now a race to gain the newly opened California State Senate seat.

Susan Bonilla, D-Concord, Joan Buchanan, D-Alamo, and Mark Meuser, R-Walnut Creek, are currently in pursuit of this open Senate seat. Likewise, they have made their positions on their future plans for the Calif. Senate very clear. For Meuser, he only needs to get more than 50 percent of the vote in this special primary, he or she will win outright; otherwise, the top two vote-getters will advance to a special general election.

Meuser is taking special attention to focus on jobs, the economy, education and maintaining the roads. “It is time to elect a representative to Sacramento who will fight for the citizens of Contra Costa and Alameda counties” said Meuser.

Meuser is focusing on maintaining the roads, jobs, and education.

“I am running for State Senate because I am tired of California being the laughing stock of this nation. California has a proud history of leading this nation in all the right categories and now every time I turn around I hear another survey that shows how poor California has been performing. We used to be first in the nation in educating our children instead of being among the worst.”

said Meuser. He also stated,

“This special election gives the voters of East Contra Costa and Alameda counties the opportunity for their voice to be heard without being drowned out by hundreds of other political races. This special election puts a spotlight on the East Bay and allows us to have a major voice in Sacramento.”

As the special elections continue to move forward, Mark Meuser and the other two candidates will push themselves to win the newly opened State Senate seat. Likewise, Meuser is making his position and future plans for Calif. very clear and is running to serve the people.
