One Killed In Byron Highway Crash
One driver in the head-on collision was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA —A head-on collision this morning in unincorporated eastern Contra Costa County killed the driver of one of the vehicles, California Highway Patrol officials said.
At about 9:35 a.m., the CHP was told of a head-on collision on Byron Highway at North Bruns Way.
A blue Honda Civic was traveling west on Byron Highway and a gold Mazda minivan was traveling east on the highway when the driver of the Honda veered into the eastbound lane, witnesses told the CHP. The two vehicles collided head-on.

Witnesses told the CHP that both vehicles were traveling at about 50 mph.
CHP officials said the driver of the Honda died at the scene. The driver of the Mazda suffered moderate injuries and was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

CHP officials said they are unsure right now whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the collision.
