The property owner argues the city lacks a specific short-term rental ordinance and is misusing bed-and-breakfast rules, while staff recommends the council uphold the Planning Commission's denial.
   

• Restaurant Fire Forces Evacuation, Draws Major ConfFire Response (patch.com) — A fire tore through the roof of Lettuce restaurant in downtown Walnut Creek on Wednesday morning, forcing employees to evacuate after they heard popping sounds and smelled smoke. ConFire deployed eight engines and more than 30 firefighters, contained the blaze without injuries, and is now monitoring hot spots as the insured property's owner begins planning a rebuild.
