The latest on the new coronavirus across the United States, including the latest on the number of cases, deaths and locations.
WASHINGTON, DC — As the growing number of people infected with the new coronavirus in the United States intersects with almost every element of daily life, different states are taking larger precautions to slow down the spread of the virus.
On Sunday afternoon, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker ordered all restaurants and bars in the state to close from Monday at close of business through March 30. Earlier on Sunday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and state officials ordered all bars and restaurants closed statewide. Ohio became the first state in the nation to implement the mass closure.
California is asking all bars to close and residents over the age of 65 or with chronic health conditions to stay home in an effort to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Sunday.

The policy applies to bars, nightclubs, wineries and brewpubs. Restaurants have not been ordered closed, but Newsom said the state will require them to reduce capacity by half and practice "deep social distancing" by separating patrons by about six feet.Officially, the closure is a "guideline" that businesses are expected to follow, Newsom said, but the state could enforce it if necessary.
Many other states are expected to soon follow.
