Storm-Battered Beaver Recovering at Lindsay Wildlife Museum

The 40 pound mammal was disoriented when it was found.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — A 40 pound beaver was examined by animal care staff at Lindsay Wildlife Museum in Walnut Creek Thursday. He was captured by an Animal Control officer in Bencia earlier in the day.

When discovered at a school, the hefty mammal was stunned, drooling and disoriented. An exam turned up abrasions and dings on his feet and tail, but overall he seems healthy and is doing well.

Lindsay plans to hold him overnight. They hope to release him Friday morning where he was captured. According to Lindsay, "we believe there is a creek or a pond nearby where he likely lives with family. If he needs more time to recuperate, he could have been tossed around in the recent storm, then we may transfer him to another facility that has pools and ponds for rehabbing beavers."
