Walnut Creek Native Savannah Louie Wins Survivor After First Auditioning in High School

Walnut Creek native Savannah Louie is officially a Survivor champion — but her journey to winning the hit CBS reality show began years earlier while she was still a teenager at Las Lomas High School.

Louie first auditioned for Survivor at 17 years old while growing up in Walnut Creek. Although she made it partway through the casting process at the time, she didn’t make the final cut.

Fourteen years later, she returned — and won it all.

Louie took home the title of Sole Survivor during Season 49 after competing in Fiji against 17 other contestants. Along the way, she tied the record for the most individual immunity challenge wins by a woman in a single season.

In a recent interview with Walnut Creek City Lifestyle, Louie reflected on how growing up in Walnut Creek helped shape her work ethic and confidence.

“Going to school in Walnut Creek was a privilege and truly set me up for success,” Louie said.

Although she now lives in Atlanta, Louie says she still returns to the Bay Area several times a year and enjoys reconnecting with the community she grew up in. Last fall, she attended a Survivor watch party at Bourbon Highway in downtown Walnut Creek alongside friends, family, and former classmates.

Louie hopes her story encourages young people to pursue ambitious goals, even when they seem unrealistic at first.

“Even if those dreams seem crazy,” she said, “it’s possible.”
