Common Cuckoo Bird Visits Watsonville

The Common Cuckoo is visiting the City of Watsonville!

Since the Common Cuckoo came into town the City of Watsonville's Nature Center located at the back of Ramsay Park has had over 700 birders filtering through the parking lot and trails. Most people are flying in from all over the states and staying here for one night just to see the Cuckoo bird. On one of the days there were only 2 California licence plates in the Ramsay Park parking lot.

This has also created an added bonus for Public Works staff that lead the Environmental Education School Programs' tour of the trails.

The Common Cuckoo was spotted in the willows along the trails between the City of Watsonville Nature Center, Landmark Elementary and the Ford Street trail area since Thursday, September 27th. Visitors are flying in from all over the country just to get a peek at this extremely rare sighting. The Common Cuckoo is a Eurasian species that has only been sighted once before in the United States at Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. People are flocking in to see this exciting lost migrant.
