Pavement Maintenance Project - Final Phase
Final Phase of Pavement Maintenance Project to be completed by July 5th.

The FINAL (third) phase of this pavement maintenance project will begin on Wednesday, June 27. The third layer will be applied, which is Type II. The slurry locks in the rock and provides a smoother surface than a chip seal alone.
The City of Watsonville first used the three-step method in 2005. This has provided a method that fills cracks in the existing pavement, seals it against water intrusion, and improves the surface. The traditional paving methods were far more costly, so fewer streets were being maintained per year. The value of maintaining streets while in relatively good condition, is a lower long term cost to the community.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, pavement preservation includes a number of economical preventive maintenance treatments that are applied to pavements whose structural sections are still in good condition and whose surfaces can be restored almost to the original condition. The key is to seal the streets while the pavement is still in good condition.

Again, we realize this is an inconvenience for the community, especially for those of you being directly affected by this project, but is also a beneficial one for all. We appreciate your patience throughout this pavement maintenance project that should be completed by July 5, weather permitting. The streets that were sealed this year will be striped in the following weeks.
You can obtain a list of city streets being affected by this project here or by visiting the website at www.watsonvilleutilities.org. The list of streets involved is also attached at the left as a PDF.
