Tree Planting with Greg Caput

Tree planting in Santa Cruz County - Supervisor Greg Caput

A couple of weeks ago I planted 12 redwood trees at All Saints
Episcopal Church. These trees will stand in memory of the two Santa
Cruz police officers who were recently killed, and for the youth of
Watsonville that have been lost to violence.

These trees are planted as a part of a project launched last year, and "will grow,
something those who die in violence are denied", said Diane Porter Cooley in the Santa Cruz Sentinel.

In addition, I wanted to thank Big Creek lumber for being generous and gracious in aiding in our task of populating Santa Cruz County with trees. Forester Bob Reynolds and Big Creek Representative Bob Berlage have been instrumental in keeping this project going.

After planting the trees, the Sentinel Newspaper publicized that I am recording all
trees that are being planted in the county in an effort to honor our fallen officers and to help reduce green house gas. Since then we have heard from several County residents about there efforts. Most notably, Mount Madonna School has committed to planting 1000 trees! They have so far planted 50!

If you are a resident of the county of Santa Cruz and plan on planting a tree,
please contact my office and let me know so that we can count you as apart of the county wide effort to plant trees. Please Contact Tony or Martin at (831)454-2200.
