Do Your Part To Keep The Watsonville Sloughs Clear

The City of Watsonville asks people to keep the storm drains, most of which lead to the sloughs, clear this rainy season.

WATSONVILLE, CA — As the rainy season sets in, the City of Watsonville is asking residents to do their part to keep trash, leaves and litter out of the storm drains, most of which lead to the sloughs.

The 800-acre Watsonville Sloughs are one of the largest freshwater marshlands in coastal California, according to Watsonville Wetlands Watch. Thousands of birds frequent the area, and 23 native flora and fauna listed as threatened, endangered or of special concern live there.

Ninety percent of California's wetlands have been lost due to development, according to the organization.
