El Sistema Santa Cruz Awarded CA Arts Council Grant
Extension grants support arts education programs for PreK-12 students that operate after school and during the summer.

From PVUSD: The California Arts Council announced its plans to award $17,100 to El Sistema Santa Cruz as part of its Arts Education: Extension program and it is a pleasure to share that they will use these funds to support after school and summer arts education El Sistema program at PVUVD’s Radcliff and Mintie White Elementary Schools.
Dr. Michelle Rodriguez, Superintendent, said, “El Sistema music program uses ensemble music to transform the lives of children by teaching the importance of teamwork, promoting self-confidence, and instilling the value of social responsibility. We are excited for the success of El Sistema during its first year at PVUSD and look forward to expansion efforts that would benefit our students.” El Sistema of Santa Cruz is one of 169 grantees chosen for the Arts Education: Extension program.
As a segment of the California Arts Council Arts Education grant opportunities, Extension grants support arts education programs for PreK-12 students that operate after school and during the summer, on school sites, in artistic venues, and in community settings. The intention of the program is to offer young people sequential, hands-on training in artistic disciplines, including dance, literary arts, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts.

“The Arts Education Extension program capitalizes on the potential to create arts learning opportunities
for California’s young people whenever and wherever possible,” said Nashormeh Lindo, California Arts Council Chair. “Projects like El Sistema at Radcliff and Mintie White allow for the positive impacts of arts engagement to continue undeterred.” PVUSD will continue to promote the importance of arts in education through all grade levels. Funding opportunities such as this grant provide the District the ability to continue to offer access to enrichment programs.
