Author Karen Kondazian reads from her new novel, The Whip, inspired by the story of Charley Parkhurst, aka Charlotte Darkey Parkhurst, a woman who posed as a man in the mid to late 1800s. A popular stage-driver, Charley drove between San Juan and Santa Cruz via Watsonville. In later years, he lived on a ranch between Watsonville and Aptos. It wasn't until his death that his true gender was discovered. Refreshments will be served.
