Get Out: A Horse Show, 'Footloose' and More

A weekend with the horses, a wine class at a farmers market and a chance to see a musical play are all part of the agenda as you get out in Watsonville.

Where/When: , 2601 E. Lake Ave., Friday, Saturday, Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

Why Go: For horse owners, this is a time to show their horses and let them strut their stuff. For the rest of us, this is a chance to look and watch and learn something about the world of horses. The organizers are also holding a horse show ribbon recycling drive to benefit the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association.

Where/When: , 215 E. Beach St., Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday matinee, 2 p.m.

Why Go: We did talk about the play in our kids planner. But if you don't have kids, you might have missed it. And we don't want that to happen. This is the production of the drama students at Watsonville and Pajaro Valley high schools. They've got talent, and you should see what they've got. Plus, it's a fun play with great music and dance routines.

Pricing: $7 general admission, $5 students

Where/When:Β 6500 Soquel Dr., Aptos, Saturday, 9 a.m. (Garden Workshop at Aptos Farmers Market)

Why Go: Jerold O'Brien of Silver Mountain Winery will speak about garden workshops at the Aptos Farmers Market. He'll give you an insider's view on what it's like to be a "green" wine producer. Quite appropriate, as Earth Day approaches.Β  But the real occasion is that it's Passport Day at about four dozen Santa Cruz Mountain wineries, including about a half dozen just outside Watsonville. More information from Santa Cruz Mountain Wineries.

Pricing: The talk is free; a "passport" is $40.

Where/When: , 75 Neilson St. (Senior Circle Room), Thursday, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Why Go: If you are of an age where you are starting to have some problems with your hands and aren't quite sure what you can do, this workshop is meant for you.Β  The workshop will be offered by Barbara Graham-Garcia, an occupational therapist/certified hand therapist. Go and get some tips for what you can do to get a "handle" on your hands.

Where/When: , 18 W. Beach St., Friday, 9:45-11:45 a.m.

Why Go: If you are looking for a job, this two-hour workshop can give you some good ideas about how to proceed. Especially helpful are the discussions about preparing your resume. You'll also hear about temp agencies and get tips to make your networking efforts more rewarding.
