Get Out in Watsonville: Relay for Life is Saturday

Learn about healthy snacks, attend the Relay for Life event at Watsonville High, take your kids to a swim meet or to Bible study in the park, and think about a class to learn how to brew your own beer; our suggestions to Get Out in and around Watsonville.

Why Go: Would you like to get away from the junk food and get on a different eating track?Β  This class is for everyone old enough to start thinking about the food they eat. Get some tips on preparing healthy snacks and so that it's not a one-time thing, you and your kids (teens) will get to take the recipes home. Pre-registration at the Youth Center is required.Β

Why Go: The Piranhas youth swim team is hosting an all-comers swim meet Friday afternoon at the . The free event is open to kids ages 6-18 who can swim 25 yardsβ€”one lap of the poolβ€”without stopping. Contact the YMCA for infomation.

Where/When: , 250 E Beach St., Saturday, 10 a.m. to Sunday, 10 a.m.Β 

Why Go:Β  This is a non-stop event where people will take turns for 24 hours walking to raise awareness about cancer. Join others in remembering those who fought or are still fighting this battle. Because cancer never sleeps, the Relay will be a 24-hour event.

Pricing: Free to attend, but remember this is a cancer fundraiser.

Why Go: The downtown City plaza will transform itself into a Bible School for kids this Saturday. will have their teachers therre for elementary school kids. The theme is "Hometown Nazareth."

Why Go: Ever get in the mood fo a cold one? Lots of times, certainly, but did you ever think you could learn to brew your own beer? You can, and it's worht going up to Santa Cruz for this how-to workshop taught by Dave Bossie. Bossie of Ben Lomond is long-time home brewer and award-winning beer maker. Brew beer in class and when class is over, you get to taste it!
