Man Shot After Opening Fire On Monterey Cops
The 40-year-old suspect was hospitalized and will be arrested for attempted murder of officers, officials said.

MONTEREY, CA – A 40-year-old man was shot after opening fire at two police officers in Monterey on Sunday night, according to police.
Officers had responded at 9:06 p.m. to a call from a family member of Andrew Lee Jones who said that Jones was agitated and armed with both a knife and gun in the 100 block of Surf Way, police said.
At some point during the response, Jones shot at the officers, prompting two officers to return fire. The officers, who have 15 and 12 years of law enforcement experience respectively, were not injured, police said.

Jones, who has a prior felony criminal history from another state, was hit by the officers' gunfire and was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries not considered life-threatening, according to police.
Once he is released from the hospital, police said he will be booked into jail on suspicion of the attempted murder of the officers, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police did not elaborate on what exactly led up to the exchange of gunfire. The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Monterey County District Attorney's Office and Monterey police.
