PVUSD Introduces 3-Year College And Career Ready Road Map

The audit revealed the need for an action plan to systematically transform policies and practices that advance equity and close gaps.

From PVUSD: In an effort to focus on preparing all students to be college and career ready upon graduation, Pajaro Valley Unified School District partnered with The Education Trust-West to conduct an Education Equity Audit (EEA) starting in 2016. The EEA examined existing District practices related to college and career readiness for students. The audit revealed the need for an action plan to systematically transform policies and practices that advance equity and close opportunity and achievement gaps.

The EEA uncovered fifteen key findings, including the need to fully align University of California and California State University admission requirements, inconsistencies with implementation and evaluation of intervention programs, additional development of Career and Technical Education pathways, and the need for increased professional development on integrating English Language Development standards to provide differentiated instruction.

Dr. Michelle Rodriguez, Superintendent, says, “Thank you to the team of 80 teachers, counselors, administrators from middle and high schools, district administrators, and community partners who for the last 18 months collaborated to develop the Blueprint Action Plan that ensures educational equity for the students, families and communities we serve. The development of the PVUSD College and Career Ready Road Map highlights key actions from the Blueprint Action Plan.” Five full-day meetings of the team of 80 educators allowed for the co-creation of the 3-year Blueprint Action Plan focusing on the following four college and career major areas: 1) Curriculum and Instruction; 2) Student Support and Interventions; 3) College Bound Systems; and, 4) Professional Development.
