The City's Field Services crews began work on the Roache Road Main Water Line Project Wednesday night , May 15th. The crew worked through the night to complete the first step in this project, which was to tie into the 16" existing water main on Freedom Blvd., located in the #2 lane on the North side of Freedom Blvd.
By working at night City crews were able to achieve the following:
- Safely work without any major traffic hazards by completely closing down Freedom Blvd. from Airport to Green Valley.
- Save time by making connection to Freedom water main crossing all 4-lanes of traffic within a 9-hour shift at night vs. completing the same amount of work in 2-3 days during the day (additional time will be required due to excessive daily traffic and the transitioning of delineation of the work zones crossing Freedom)
- Minimize traffic disruptions by performing the work on off-peak traffic times
- Reduced impacts to local businesses and residents
- Started delineating roadways (7:00 p.m.)
- Freedom Blvd. was shut down from Airport to Greenvalley
- Excavation was initiated
- Sixteen inch (16" ) water main on Freedom Blvd. was located at a depth of 79" o.c.
- Successfully installed 6" tap to existing 16" water main
- Located 7-utilities within trench
- Installed 80'ft. of 6" ductile iron pipe
- Backfilled
- Paving & clean-up was complete
- Freedom traffic was restored (6:00 a.m.)
Work will continue on Monday morning on Roache Road, free of impacts to Freedom Blvd.. Estimated work time for the remainder of this project is 16-working days. If you have any questions regarding this project, contact Steve Hernandez, Water Operations Manager at 768-3194.
