The City of West Hollywood has opened grant applications and its annual poster competition for the City’s 2022 One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival.

The City of West Hollywood’s One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival takes place each year from Harvey Milk Day (May 22) through the end of June Pride Month (June 30). The festival presents a wide array of programs featuring visual arts, poetry, film screenings, and theatrical productions. Archived content from the 2021 festival includes the virtual Stuart Timmons West Hollywood LGBTQ History Tour, readings from an LGBTQ History in Comics panel, and a musical storytelling project featuring LGBTQ seniors; and can be viewed at https://bit.ly/OCOPYouTube or at www.weho.org/pride.  

One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival Grants are intended to support the production, performance, or presentation of art projects intended to expand the celebration of June Pride Month in West Hollywood through arts and culture, and to document, inspire and celebrate the history and creativity of our diverse local LGBTQ community. The grant application is open to individuals, artist collectives, artistic teams, and nonprofit arts organizations. Artists and organizations interested in applying may visit www.weho.org/community/arts-and-culture/grants-and-opportunities for more information. Grant applications are due no later than 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.The maximum award $6,500. The total annual budget for this grant category is $35,000.

The theme for the 2022 One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival is “With Liberty, Diversity, Inclusion, and Progress For All. Proposed projects should respond to this theme in any way they see fit, and creativity is encouraged.

In order to assist those interested in applying for a grant, the City will host a Grant Workshop on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. online via the Zoom virtual platform. This workshop will provide an opportunity to learn best practices and helpful tips in applying for this grant, and participants will have an opportunity to ask questions of the City’s Arts Coordinator. The workshop will be recorded and will be available for viewing after the event at www.weho.org/arts. First-time applicants and returning organizations with new development personnel are strongly encouraged to attend the Grant Workshop.

The City has also opened up its annual One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival Poster Competition. This competition is open to artists from around the world and in the past has received submissions from artists on every continent (except Antarctica) and from several countries where being gay is punishable by fines, imprisonment, and even death. In 2019, the City of West Hollywood’s One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival took home the nation’s top city/county award for Graphic Design Marketing Tools from the national organization, 3CMA (City-County Communications & Marketing Association). The judges said they were, “…very impressed with the results and outreach” of the contest.

The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 5 p.m. The winning artist will receive an award of $650 and will have the opportunity to have their artwork displayed to thousands of people on street pole banners and posters in the City of West Hollywood.
