Elections Are About Numbers: Special Focus in WEHO on Prop 10

Precision of Focus in a City of 80% Renters Is a West Hollywood Brand...Turnout Is A Dream Ratio for Parents & Teachers, Not For Elections

West Hollywood City Council Member, Lauren Meister, seemed routinely, WEHO cheerleader cheery, as she did the math for me...Prop 10 is such a priority for WEHO, she, in solidarity with her 4 Council colleagues, gave it unanimous approval as a Yes vote, two months ago, as the first of a few other propositions they had prioritized as a united governing Council...without ever saying "first," favorite" nor "Number 1." Trust me...I was tripping myself up as I tried to hone in on its status and she didn't even stumble while not tripping over me.

In a so-so sized crowd in a vestibule of Pump...one of the most famous names of Weho muscle as local and national brands of "BH Housewife," Lisa Vanderpump... it wasn't "packed"...as defined by "house" nor a Tom Tom pumped up "six."

Once I had weaved and weeded through the crowd...I was able to identify 5 people in attendance, who, one could describe as invested, as playing an "official" role, inclusive of Ms. Meister, 1 speaking for a Council of 5 on this issue, plus 2 other guests, one wearing a "Yes on 10" tee, who, like the Council Member, were on a panel, with seemingly two types of interactive hosts, one of whom, Brookshire Lafayette, is affiliated with the sponsor of this event, Hope4Tenants, www.hope4tenants.org... a 501c3 public advocacy organization for tenants' rights. Most people in attendance were not residents of WEHO, but of L.A. County, one of whom was there, not to share his position on Prop 10, but to emphasize to the assembled group, how important it was to vote no matter what.

I was doing my best due diligence to determine how many of the people in this room, actually had arrived for this event, to learn about Prop 10, who weren't officially invested as already described, nor the barflies speaking loud enough to be asked to quiet down, more than once, nor the one special guest celebrity, writer/director, Daniel Beaty, who was one of three, sharply dressed in pink, the third was someone taking photos...seemingly of everyone, including me taking a photo of her, who was a guest of the "Vote- however, just vote," gentleman, also clad debonair pink.

When I was almost done crunching numbers, I went to the far back of the room, to introduce myself to one man, who seemed out of hearing reach, attentive in a nonchalant way. His name is Anthony Vasquez, from Riverside, and the proposition he will be voting on is not the same as this Prop 10. He heard about this event on a local news TV station and it had been the mention of Hope4Tenants that drew him in...under the circumstances, what I had described as "non-chalant" was actually quite gallant.

As with elections, the most important numbers come at the end, when all totaled. The final tally of attendance at this event had more supply of experts than demand to hear and learn from them. Before I left, while the panel was still on a roll, there was a 5 to 3 perhaps 4 ratio, of Prop 10 experts still explaining to those still paying attention.

There were more raffle prizes by far that had been used as bling to bait people in, than were people who had been baited, and more barflies too, those who were there just for cocktails- the main event at every bar, who hadn't taken being ssshh'd too much to heart, to make what was being said easily heard...not a criticism of people at the bar but a further accolade to the challenging circumstances for those whose valuable time had been committed for this event.

Such an impressive turnout for those taking the lead and the reins of Proposition 10...to walk a show horse around the ring at such a famous watering hole in West Hollywood... for any partisan of voters, anywhere in L.A. County, to sip in something, not just those at the bar.

YES on PROP 10 SEEMS TO BODE WELL FOR WEHO...

...THIS ONE POV IN A PATCH OF MILLIONS WONDERS IF THERE IS OTHER BODING TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE BIGGER ABODE... THE WILD WEST AND YONDER PARTS...WHO KNOWS AS OTHERS GO, MY INSTINCTS ARE BEST TUNED TO WEHO.
