Two New Dog Parks To Open At West Hollywood Park

Big, small, short, tall, scruffy, fluffy, or bald, all types of dogs are welcome at the new dog parks which will be unveiled this weekend.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA – There's no time for sitting and staying, run your dog over to the two new dog parks opening at West Hollywood Park this weekend. Big, small, short, tall, scruffy, fluffy, or bald, all types of dogs are welcome at the new dog parks which will be unveiled this weekend with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday at 10 a.m.

Visitors and their furry friends should head to the north end of West Hollywood Park, west of the outdoor basketball courts. The ribbon-cutting event will feature brief remarks from members of the West Hollywood City Council and there will be ample opportunity for dogs to explore the new parks.

“The opening of dog parks at West Hollywood Park is an exciting milestone for the progress being made on many wonderful improvements underway at the park,” said West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman in a statement. “We’re thrilled to provide a new amenity for our residents and their dogs, and we’re all looking forward to forthcoming park features, such as the Aquatic and Recreation Center, currently under construction.”

The off-leash dog parks are located on either side of West Hollywood Park’s outdoor basketball courts. The new small dog area is 4,250 square feet, and is located to the west of the courts; the new large dog area is 7,350 square feet and is located to the east of the courts. Each dog park features expanses of open space with shade trees, small mounds and turf terraces for romping, and water stations, the City of West Hollywood press release said.

Implementation of improvements for Phase II of the West Hollywood Park Master Plan began in January 2017 and construction is anticipated through 2019. This phase includes the construction of a new five-level, 75,000-square-foot Aquatic and Recreation Center; a “Robertson Gardens” area with public art, new picnic areas, and an outdoor exercise circuit for adults throughout the park; and new playgrounds for children.

The park is open throughout construction and every existing park facility will remain open until after each new improvement is completed and available.
