West Hollywood City Presents Coronavirus Discussion And Q&A Featuring Experts In Medicine And Public Health

The City of West Hollywood is responding to community needs and is providing regular updates during the coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency. The City has been taking extensive steps to support the community during this unprecedented time and, this week, the City continues its COVID-19 educational series with an informational virtual presentation for community members.

On Wednesday, September 23 at 11 a.m. the City will present a COVID-19 Discussion and Q&A with experts in the fields of medicine and public health. This virtual event is free to attend. Please RSVP in advance by Eventbrite at https://wehocovid-19panel.eventbrite.com. A link to the Zoom Webinar will be emailed to participants who are registered prior to the event.

“As businesses slowly reopen, children return to school virtually, and ‘safer at home/safer in the community’ orders continue past six months, community members find themselves living in a new normal — at least for the time being,” said City of West Hollywood Councilmember Lauren Meister. “This event will serve to provide community members with the most up-to-date information about COVID-19 and the status of the local response in West Hollywood and the Greater Los Angeles region.”

The virtual panel will feature: Dr. Richard Riggs, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center; and Cristin Mondy, RN, MSN, MPH, Regional Health Officer Metro LA from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. The discussion will be moderated by Hernan Molina, the City of West Hollywood’s Governmental Affairs Liaison. Panelists will provide their professional insights and address general health and safety questions. Topics will include:

1. What we know about the virus — including symptoms, herd immunity, chances of reoccurrence, the number of local cases in West Hollywood and Los Angeles and Los Angeles County’s response thus far;
2. The current response — including testing, effectiveness of wearing masks, how to stay safe while social distancing, contract tracing; and
3. The future outlook — including opening businesses safely, progress on a vaccine, and the possibility of a second wave.

The City of West Hollywood remains in a declared local emergency in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. While Los Angeles County is allowing for a phased reopening of some businesses and activities, coronavirus transmission and COVID-19 disease remain a serious risk. West Hollywood City Hall is currently closed to in-person transactions, but City Hall services remain accessible by phone at (323) 848-6400 and via the City’s website at www.weho.org.
