West Hollywood To Host Free Compost Giveaway
The city's Summer of Sustainability program hopes to inspire WeHo residents to take the steps to "go green."

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA – As part of West Hollywood's Summer of Sustainability promotion, the city is hosting a free compost giveaway event in conjunction with Athens Services on Saturday, September 29 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Plummer Park north parking, located at the corner of Vista Street and Fountain Avenue.
All of these City programs hope to inspire local residents to take steps to Go Green, the city said in a press release. “Compost is organic material that can be added to soil to help plants grow. Food scraps and yard waste together currently make up about 30 percent of what we throw away, and should be composted instead. Making compost keeps these materials out of landfills where they take up space and release methane, a potent greenhouse gas,” according the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
Athens’ compost is a blend of organic materials including a mix of green waste, wood waste, and food scraps. It is OMRI listed and licensed by the California Department of Food and Agriculture, the press release said.
