West Hollywood Opens Applications For Temporary Art Project Proposals

The City of West Hollywood, through its Arts Division, requests proposals from artists, musicians, and performers for temporary art interventions for an exhibition called #ArtfulDistancing.

Proposed artworks may be visual, musical, performance-based, or streetscape/mural art. Proposals should be low-impact and able to be installed/performed by the applicant without assistance from others while taking into consideration current health and safety guidelines from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

#ArtfulDistancing is an initiative that will infuse funding to our arts economy through temporary art interventions. Artists are invited to propose non-traditional artwork, experiences, and performances in the City of West Hollywood with the goal of helping neighbors stay connected and helping people reconnect, recover, and adjust to new social distancing conditions.

Artists working in any media (music, performance, visual art, etc.) living in Los Angeles County are eligible to apply. Artists who live in the City of West Hollywood are especially encouraged to apply. Public exhibition experience is not required. Proposals should be all-inclusive and not exceed $599. Proposed projects for this initiative should not require additional funding. The City of West Hollywood through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission and Art on the Outside Subcommittee reviews temporary public art projects on behalf of the City in the fields of visual and performance art, film/video, and emerging/multi-disciplinary practices.

The City of West Hollywood remains in a declared local emergency in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. While Los Angeles County is allowing for a phased reopening of some businesses and activities, coronavirus transmission and COVID-19 disease remain a serious risk. West Hollywood City Hall is currently closed to in-person transactions, but City Hall services remain accessible by phone at (323) 848-6400 and via the City’s website at www.weho.org.
