Can Everyone Use Invisalign?
While Invisalign is the preferred orthodontic treatment for discreet correction of teeth, age and severity of issues can prevent candidacy.

Many people choose Invisalign as their first choice when they want discreet braces. Thanks to the availability of three options from Invisalign, a majority of orthodontic patients can have their teeth straightened this way. However, not everybody is a candidate. Here is a look at eligibility for this treatment from our cosmetic dentist in Canoga Park.
Candidacy Issues
Invisalign can be a good choice for most adults and some older adolescents whose jaws have completed development. Unfortunately, some limitations of the Invisalign aligners prevent this treatment from addressing certain issues. For example, teeth that need to be moved up or down cannot be straightened this way.
Invisalign Options
The three modern Invisalign options are Full, Teen and Express. Invisalign Full is the standard treatment and is designed for adults and some teens over age 17. Teen is similar to Full in its basic design and process, but it has bumps that allow it to work during continued growth and includes free replacement aligners. Express is complete in less time than other forms of Invisalign. In just three to six months for most patients, Express can correct very minor issues that do not require full Invisalign treatment.
Additional Considerations
Some orthodontic issues require special appliances regardless of the braces chosen. These issues include severe overbite and narrow palate. In these situations, treatment may be prolonged if the required appliances cannot be used at the same time as the main treatment. This can be particularly true with Invisalign because the aligners fit over the teeth and prevent attachment of some fixed appliances.
Information on Invisalign candidacy can help patients decide whether it might be right for them. However, only an exam from our expert in Invisalign in Canoga Park can confirm whether patients are eligible. At a consultation with our dentist, patients can learn more about who can use Invisalign.
