LA Makes List for Top STEM Pay in Nation

Forget the Bay Area—if you can't find the perfect STEM job in LA, try Orange County!

The top metro area for STEM pay in the U.S. is, of course……Bethesda, Maryland?!

While the Bay Area dominated the Top 5, taking three of the spots, it was edged out for No. 1 by Bethesda-Rockville-Frederick in Maryland, according to an analysis conducted by SmartAsset. Located just outside Washington, D.C., top STEM employers include the National Institute of Health and Lockheed-Martin. Paychecks average $100,787.

Also on the list at No. 9 is Los Angeles. SmartAsset heaped praise on the City of Angels, “While Los Angeles may be associated with the big screen more than computers and calculators, the numbers prove that LA is one of the top areas for STEM workers in the country. The average STEM job in the LA area pays $91,358 per year, or about 1/164th what Russell Crowe supposedly earned pretending to be a mathematician in A Beautiful Mind.”
