Bailey Teen Maggie Long, 17, Found Dead In Burned Home

A judge's gag order prevented news of the Bailey teen's death from being released. Long disappeared Friday when her remains were found.

BAILEY, CO – The Park Co. Sheriff's office released news Thursday that the town of Bailey had been fearing: Missing Platte Valley High School student Maggie Long, 17, was found dead in her burned home Dec. 1. A judge had issued a gag order Monday that forbade law enforcement authorities from speaking about the case while an arson investigation was taking place at the family home near County Road 43.

Maggie's sister posted on Facebook that the teen was supposed to perform in a concert Friday night at Platte Valley HS, but never showed up.

On Sunday morning, the Park Co. sheriff’s office posted a message to Facebook: “Due to the serious nature of this investigation we ask that you keep the Long Family in your prayers. We are not able to release any further information at this time.”

Thursday, the sheriff’s office identified remains found inside the home as those of Long, according to news reports.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area on Dec. 1 to contact the investigative tip line at 303-239-4243.
