ESTES PARK, CO — After finding its way into a home Friday night, a bear escaped by breaking through a wall, the Estes Park Police Department said. The bear, who was wandering around the Fall River Road area, was likely attracted by a scent in the home, police said. No injuries were reported.

When an officer arrived, the bear "forcibly breached a hole in the wall like the 'Kool-Aid Man' and made [its] escape," police said in a Facebook post.

The bear appeared to tear through the wall's insulation and rip through the outside wall.

There's been an unusually high number of bear break-ins in the Estes Park area recently, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Since July, bears have broken into more than 35 vehicles.

Even though many people keep their cars free of food, bears in the area have become so used to finding food in cars that they check to see if the car is unlocked — just in case, wildlife officials said.

"For your safety, and the lives of these bears, PLEASE close and lock ALL windows and doors to your house and vehicles. Make it a routine to check everything is closed up before you go to bed or leave the house to do errands," CPW's Facebook post read.

"Please do your part to keep bears wild. Bears are extremely smart, which means we all have to be too. Sometimes it's literally as easy as a push of a button or flick of a lock."
