'Boneyard Rapid' Section of Upper Colorado River Claims Woman's Life

The Eagle County Sheriff's Office says the woman became trapped as she tried to swim out of the rapid.

A woman died Monday afternoon on the Upper Colorado River when the boat became trapped in what's called the "Boneyard Rapid" between Yarmony and Rancho Del Rio. The woman tried to swim out of the rapid but couldn't make it,

The Eagle County Sheriff's office says the woman was with a large private group from the Edwards area. There were several boats and kayaks in the group.

The woman's boat became trapped on another boat that had been pinned on a rock. (For more information on this and other local stories, subscribe to your local Patch for breaking news alerts.)

Emergency responders from the Eagle and Grand counties quickly arrived on scene with resources and volunteers to assist witnesses and boaters with recovery efforts. By 5:00 p.m., a female in her early thirties was recovered from the river, and was non responsive to CPR efforts.

The sheriff's office says that it's important for people to take extra precautions when going out on the river this time of year.
