Centennial Man Pleads Guilty To Killing One, Wounding Two

Kevin Lyons will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Sixteen times Kevin Lyons had one word to say when District Judge Carlos Samour asked him, "how do you plead?" Each time, Lyons said "guilty." Lyons admitted to killing his neighbor, Dr. Kenneth Atkinson and wounding two women, one of whom was Lyons's wife.

It was April 5, 2016 when Lyons opened fire near the intersection of East Kettle Avenue and East Long Circle South.

Lyons originally wounded his wife and Laurie Juergens, a neighbor.

Lyons would tell police that his wife was "a two headed snake" that he had to kill.

Arapahoe District Attorney George Brauchler had rejected an earlier attempt by Lyons to plead guilty, saying he wanted to gather all the facts as he was considering the death penalty.

When Lyons is sentenced in June he will receive life plus 352 years.
