Colorado Liquor Sales Restrictions May Loosen

With the end of session approaching, lawmakers are considering overhauling the rules they approved last year.

Colorado lawmakers are considering a series of changes to the state's liquor laws that will allow big box stores such as Target and Walmart to sell alcohol. The legislation would allow the big box stores to obtain 20 licenses each.

The change - which is opposed by the Colorado Licensed Beverage Association - follows moves last year which allowed the state's grocery chains to obtain licenses to add alcohol sales over two decades if they meet certain conditions.

The association, which represents the state's small liquor stores, is concerned about the livelihood of its members.

That factor led to the state senate killing a similar bill earlier this year.
