Colorado Sanctuary Euthanizes Animals After Being Refused Move
The sanctuary had wanted to move to Elizabeth. The county said no.

Lion's Gate Animal Sanctuary in Elbert County euthanized all of its animals after the county refused to give them a permit to move to a different part of the county. Eleven animals - three lions, three tigers, and five bears - were euthanized and buried on the property of the sanctuary.

The sanctuary is now shut down, their webpage has been suspended, and their Facebook page is also inactive.

The sanctuary owners had hoped to move to the eastern part of the county, near Elizabeth. It was an idea that was soundly opposed.
On April 12, the county commissioners voted unanimously to deny the special use permit that the sanctuary would have needed. The commissioners had also turned them down a decade ago,
