Target To Roll Out Same-Day Delivery In Colorado

New program begins May 3 in Northern Colorado for same-day delivery through Target partner Shipt.

FORT COLLINS, CO — Target is preparing to jump into the same-day delivery market and battle online competitor and retail giant Amazon. Fort Collins and Greeley will be test sites for the new service offering same-day delivery of groceries, essentials, home, electronics, toys and other products starting May 3.

In December, Target acquired Shipt, an online, same-day delivery platform, for $550 million.

New members who sign up for Shipt prior to May 3 will receive an annual membership for $49 (regularly $99). With a Shipt subscription, delivery of items for orders over $35 is free. Coverage will start in Fort Collins, Wellington and Greeley.

"Shipt is bringing same-day delivery to a number of bustling neighborhoods across Colorado, simplifying how residents show for their lifestyle essentials," said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Shipt, in a statement.

Leading up to the launch, Shipt plans to hire 800 shoppers in Fort Collins, Boulder, Colorado Springs and Metro Denver and will roll out the program nationwide by the end of the year. To apply to be a Shipt Shopper, visit Shipt.com.

The majority of Target stores will offer the service by the 2018 holiday season, reaching all major markets across the country, according to the company. By the end of 2019, same-day delivery will include all major product categories at Target.
