Virginia Amtrak Crash: Colorado Congressmen Aboard

BREAKING: One person was killed in the crash. Cong. Mike Coffman and Scott Tipton tweeted they are OK and asked for prayers.

DENVER, CO -- At least two Colorado lawmakers were aboard a train full of GOP representatives that was involved in a crash in Albemarle County, Virginia Wednesday, according to staff, members of Congress on the train and local police. NBC 29 reports that one person was killed and at least one person is in critical condition. CNN is reporting that the train hit a tractor trailer carrying trash.

Rep. Mike Coffman, a Republican from Colorado, was aboard a train that crashed Wednesday en route to a GOP retreat. Coffman's Twitter account posted an update from "staff:"

"Rep. Coffman was onboard Amtrak train that collided w/truck, he is ok. We ask for prayers for all involved in this accident & appreciate everyone's calls.... story is still developing. -Staff," the account tweeted.

Cong. Scott Tipman also tweeted that he was aboard the train and was unharmed.

"I am on the train that crashed and was not injured," Tipton tweeted. " Thank you to everyone who has reached out. I am praying for those who were hurt."

Coffman represents Colorado's 6th congressional district. Tipton, of Cortez, represents the 3rd district.

California lawmaker Jeff Denham tweeted a photo of the front of the Amtrak train heading to the Greenbrier event.
