Arvada Fire Protection District Declares Local Disaster Emergency

The declaration will give the district more access to state and federal emergency funding, officials said.

ARVADA, CO — The Arvada Fire Protection District declared a local disaster emergency Monday amid the spread of the new coronavirus. The declaration will remain in effect for seven days, unless extended by the district's board of directors.

"This declaration recognizes the imminent threat to life and public health resulting from the pandemic spread of COVID-19," the district said in a tweet.

The declaration ensures that the district can secure emergency funding through Colorado's Office of Emergency Management and federal sources "that may come available," officials said.
