City Of Arvada Declares State Of Emergency
The declaration gives the city the flexibility to "quickly acquire and apply resources to support residents and partners," officials said.
ARVADA, CO — Arvada City Manager Mark Deven declared a state of emergency Friday. The declaration allows the city to quickly acquire and offer resources to support residents and partners as the new coronavirus spreads. The emergency declaration must be reviewed by the Arvada City Council within seven days.
In line with county, state and federal guidelines and recommendations, and in an abundance of caution, the city will postpone, suspend or cancel non-essential city events, community gatherings, and engagements involving more than 250 people, and in many cases, those with fewer than 250 people, until May 4, officials said.
Here are some events and services that will be suspended:

- Cancellation of the Arvada Kite Festival.
- Suspension of passport services.
- Suspension of neighborhood meetings occurring at City facilities
- Pausing approval of permits for special events occurring prior to April 30.

Monday's Arvada City Council is canceled. Items slated for the related agenda will be rescheduled for consideration at a future date, officials said. The next regular council business meeting is scheduled April 6.
The Tuesday Planning Commission meeting has also been canceled.

The city strongly recommends that residents follow Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment recommendations to protect themselves from any respiratory infection and help control community spread:
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water.
- Cover nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing and sneezing, throw the tissue away and then wash hands.
- Avoid touching the face including your eyes, nose and mouth. Disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- Avoid being around anyone with cold- or flu-like symptoms, and if sick, stay home and away from public places.
- Get a flu shot if they have not yet received one.
