ARVADA, CO — July 4th is quickly approaching, and the Arvada Police Department is getting ready to enforce the city's fireworks law. A live hotline will be available for residents to report violations.

In a community alert, police warned residents to "leave the fireworks to the professionals."

Between 12 p.m. on July 1 to 12 p.m. on July 6 a fireworks message hotline will be available for residents to report violations at 720-898-6919. The messages will be consistently checked by sector officers, police said.

A live fireworks hotline will be open July 4 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Violations can be reported at 720-898-6900.

More than 2,000 building and vehicle fires in the country are caused by fireworks every July 4th alone—more than any other day of the year, according to the National Fire Protection Association.

Each year, thousands of Americans are injured by fireworks. Small fireworks, such as firecrackers, bottle rockets, and sparklers, are not safer, NFPA said. In fact, they account for almost 75 percent of all fireworks-related injuries.

Those hoping to celebrate the holiday with a professional fireworks display can attend Arvada's Independence Day Celebration.
