From Kid-Friendly to Edgy, Arvada Ctr's Theater Season Has It All
Arvada Theater's 2018 season offers kid-friendly Suessical, as well as the magical realism of The Electric Baby, plus Jane Austen and more!

ARVADA, CO -- Blink and you'll miss another performance at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. The theater is stuffing January and February with a variety of performances ranging from child and young-adult friendly, to edgy.
In the theater's Black Box Repertory space, Arvada Center offers a rotation of more intimate pieces.
'Sense And Sensibility,' Kate Hamill's "goofy and rollicking" adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel runs from Jan 24 - March 14.

This rollicking, ingeniously-theatrical new adaptation of the Jane Austen classic follows the Dashwood sisters – sensibleElinor and passionate Marianne as they pursue their quest for love and happiness. When they lose their fortune, marriageis their only hope but can love and marriage go together for women without money? Surrounding them is a company ofshape-shifting actors who transform into characters, animals, and even scenery to bring Austen's story to life in this goofy, joyous and deeply moving play.
The Black Box also presents the magic-realism of playwright Stefanie Zadravec, in The Electric Baby, directed by Rick Barbour starting Friday, Feb. 9, 2018.
A darkly comic story that combines folktales and folklore to explore the unlikely people that get you from one place to the next. The play contains strong adult language and is best enjoyed by young adults to adults.
The theater will also present family-friend Seussical the Musical, with an all-star cast of local kid talent, beginning Feb. 2.

Don't miss the theater's "Legacy Show" on Saturday, Feb. 24
The Legacy Show is an exploration of African-American musical history and culture through time and is presented during Black History Month, according to a statement from the theater.
The performance is a multimedia concert of music by African-American composers performed by violinist Tami Lee Hughes and pianist Byron Burford-Phearse. The program features classical music infused with a variety of styles, including spirituals, blues, gospel, hip-hop, and jazz. Portraying cultural themes of the Antebellum Period, the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights Era, and Modern Times, the program includes poetry and visual media projected onto a large screen, providing images of people and places thematically related to the music.
