'Meth Binge' Driver Charged In Arvada Pedestrian Death

Driver Troy Glassford told police he had taken meth and smoked pot before a one-vehicle crash that killed pedestrian Nathan Osburn, 42.

ARVADA, CO -- A driver charged with killing an Arvada pedestrian reportedly told officers he had been on a "meth-binge" and up all night when he fell asleep at the wheel. Troy Glassford, 39, was charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of drugs and careless driving, causing the death of father-of-four Nathan Osburn, 42 Jan. 10. Glassford was free on $20,000 bond.

Arvada police were called around 4:15 p.m. after Glassford's grey Volkswagen Passat left the curb at Pomona and Quay drives and struck Osburn, a shed and a fence.

When questioned by police, Glassford said he had been on a "meth binge" the day before and stayed up all night, according to the arrest affidavit. Glassford told police he had smoked marijuana taken a one-hour nap at his parents' house before attempting to drive to his girlfriend's house. He said he lost consciousness at the wheel, crossed over into incoming traffic, where his Passat struck a fence, shed and Osburn.

Osborn, who worked as a certified financial planner, was born in Merced, California and lived in Indiana and Arizona, according to his obituary. He and wife Julie Blanchard had four children and were members of Arvada's Shrine of Saint Anne Community. A GofundMe campaign to help Osburn's family with expenses has raised more than $30,000.
