Mother, 95, Son, 68, Die In Arvada House Fire
A fire started in the basement of a home in the 10600 block of 64th Avenue early Friday morning.

ARVADA, CO – The mother and son who died in an early-morning Arvada fire Friday were identified by the Jefferson County Coroner's office Friday. Lorraine Cowan, 95, and her son, Stephen Ringenberg, 68, died in the fire at 10160 W. 64th Ave., near the Apex Tennis Center.
The fire was first reported around 2:50 a.m., but firefighters initially went to the wrong address, at 64th Avenue and Lee Street, where a call had originated. They discovered the actual fire nearby in the 10100 block of 64th.
Both mother and son were rescued from the home by firefighters and taken to a hospital, but both died.

The blaze was determined to have started in the basement, but the cause is still under investigation, firefighters said.

Arvada Fire District firefighters were somber the next morning. [It's] a very difficult day for our [firefighters] and our community," the district tweeted. "We lost [two] community members to a home fire. Fire fatalities are rare [and] it's something that stays [with] us."
