Push-Button Ignition Confuses Men Trying To Steal Car in Arvada

Two suspects tried to steal a car from a woman at gunpoint but were thwarted by the vehicle's push-button ignition, Arvada police said.

ARVADA, CO — Two men tried to steal a car from a woman at gunpoint but the suspects couldn't figure out how to start the vehicle's push-button ignition, Arvada police said. Officers were called to the 6700 block of Dover Street at about 11 p.m. Monday after an armed robbery was reported at a home, police said.

The woman pulled into her driveway and was gathering her belongings when the two suspects went up to her car. One of the men pulled out a black semiautomatic handgun at the woman and demanded the car, police said.

The men couldn't figure out how to start the push-button ignition. Instead they stole some of the woman's belongings, according to police.

Both suspects were described as Hispanic. The man who had the gun was wearing dark clothing and a yellow hood, police said.

The second man, who had a bandana across his face, was wearing a dark Adidas hoodie, according to police.

The two may have been driving an orange Mitsubishi Eclipse or similar vehicle.
