Longer days and warmer weather mean it’s a great time to get outside and see what’s happening around Boulder. Throughout the season, local markets, festivals and community events offer plenty of opportunities to explore, connect and enjoy the best of spring.

Below are several happenings to check out this season. Before heading out, it’s always a good idea to confirm hours, weather plans and ticket details with event organizers.


1. Bolder Boulder 10k

When: May 25

Where: Start line is at 30th and Walnut streets; Finish line is at The University of Colorado at Boulder’s Folsom Field

This Memorial Day tradition began in 1979 and has become one of the largest community running events in the world, with more than 50,000 participants and even more spectators. Whether you choose to run or prefer to be a spectator, it’s a race not to be missed and a great way to celebrate the holiday.

2. Boulder Farmers Market

When: Wednesdays and Saturdays, beginning April 4; Times vary by day

Where: 13th Street, between Canyon Boulevard and Arapahoe Avenue

Head to downtown Boulder for the freshest meat, poultry, eggs and eats. Go for the produce, stay for the vibes. There’s always live music, kids’ activities and products to sample.

3. Hiking at Chautauqua Park

When: Daily, 5 a.m. - 11 p.m.

Where: 900 Baseline Road

Want to take a hike but short on time, the Chautauqua trail is a perfect option. It does get busy with both local and tourist traffic but the views are awesome and worth the trip. Grab a hat, sunscreen and enough water for you and any furry friends you bring along, as it can get hot on Boulder’s beautiful blue sky days.

4. Colorado Shakespeare Festival

When: May - August (check schedule for specific dates and times)

Where: Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre on the University of Colorado at Boulder’s campus

Enjoy works from The Bard under the stars at this theater that has been “lovingly refreshed” and ready to welcome visitors. Laugh, cry and feel all the feels at performances that will range from the comical, Twelfth Night, to the tragic, Julius Caesar. The theater has been entertaining visitors for nearly 70 years and continues to be a must for locals.

5. First Friday Market

When: First Fridays, March through December

Where: 4871 Broadway, in the North Boulder Arts District

This market brings together artists, musicians, farmers, chefs and entrepreneurs for a fun, diverse pop up experience. The indoor/outdoor venue offers visitors the chance to grab a bite at a food truck and connect with local artists and businesses. The market is held in conjunction with NoBo First Fridays.

6. Boulder Creek Festival

When: May 22 - 25; Hours vary by day

Where: Along Boulder Creek from 9th Street to 14th Street, between Canyon Boulevard and Arapahoe Avenue

This annual festival is a can’t miss event for anyone in Boulder and its nearby communities. The event features four days of music, artisans and food. Visitors can stop and listen to more than 30 bands perform on three stages and shop the more than 200 vendors lining the Boulder Creek, not to mention all of the food options. The festival is free to attend, but there is a ticketed beer festival.
