While it is the last thing that anyone wants to think about, a generous donation over the summer is ensuring that our schools are better prepared to respond to an act of school violence or serious accidental injury.

STOP THE BLEED® kits were installed at every BVSD school over the summer, thanks to grant money from both the Boulder Community Health Foundation and Regional Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Advisory Councils (RETAC). The kits include specialized supplies that can be used anytime there is an injury resulting in significant bleeding.
BVSD staff has already been trained on how to use the supplies, along with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and other lifesaving techniques. Additionally, each kit comes with instructions so that anyone can deploy the lifesaving contents, if necessary.

“This is a natural extension of our efforts to be ready for any emergency that may occur in our buildings. We already have AEDs installed in our buildings and are working to ensure our school nurse consultants have Naloxone in case they need to respond to an overdose-related emergency,” said BVSD Health Services Director Stephanie Faren. “We truly hope that the kits will never be needed, but we appreciate the generous donation so that we are ready, if they ever are.”
