CU Boulder Employee Tests Presumptive Positive For Coronavirus

A University of Colorado Boulder employee has tested presumptive positive for the new coronavirus, officials confirmed.

BOULDER, CO — An employee at the University of Colorado Boulder has tested presumptive positive for the new coronavirus, officials announced in a campus alert Thursday evening. The university is working with Boulder County Public Health to investigate the case.

Officials are reaching out to people who have been in contact with the employee and asking them to stay home for 14 days, the university said. Their symptoms will be monitored by public health employees.

"Our current understanding is that the employee worked on Monday, March 9, from 8 a.m. to noon in limited areas of the Center for Community," the alert read. "We are taking additional steps to close and disinfect any areas where it is confirmed this employee was present."

The university is already following public health guidance regarding additional cleaning and sanitation steps to prevent the further spread of the virus, officials said.

"In anticipation of the increasing likelihood of a positive COVID-19 case on campus, our campus began its transition to remote learning and working earlier this week," the alert read. "Based on the current information available, we do not believe a campus closure is warranted.

"We are continuously monitoring this evolving situation and will take additional actions to protect the health and safety of our campus community as necessary."

Beginning Monday, the University of Colorado Boulder is holding all classes online for the rest of the semester.
