Gateway Community College Students May Still Be Eligible For Cares Act Assistance

There’s good news for Gateway Community College students who did not fill out a FAFSA: They may still be eligible to receive a CARES Act Cash Assistance.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law by President Trump in March 2020. This economic relief package is aimed at protecting the American people from the public health and economic impacts of COVID-19. Until now, undergraduate, graduate and medical degree-seeking students were eligible, but must have submitted a 2019-2020 FAFSA by June 30.

A new process is now in place to determine if students are eligible for the CARES funding, and the deadline is Aug. 31. An attestation form has been added to the myCommNet portal for those newly eligible students who receive CARES Act cash assistance but who have not filed a FAFSA. For eligible students, once they click on the link they will need to read and answer “yes” or “no”. Students will have until Aug. 31 to answer.

Eligible students will receive a notification text and email from the Board of Regents (BOR) for Higher Education.
