Here are the top stories in Boulder today:

  1. Boulder County prosecutors file charges against lawmaker for allegedly lying about where she lived. State Rep. Tracey Bernett is accused of variety of offenses, including forgery, providing false information about a residence, perjury and procuring false registration. The charges stem from the lawmaker claiming she was living in a 700 s.f. apartment in Louisville, when she was actually living in her home in Longmont, after her district's boundaries changed.   2. Climate change definitely isn't on every voter's mind this year. A recent poll shows that only half of the registered voters in the U.S. indicated that climate change is one of the most important issues when it comes to who and what they are planning to vote for this year. (CU Boulder)
  3. Twitter layoffs hit Boulder office after the company was purchased by Elon Musk. Twitter closed all of its offices around the U.S. this week as its new billionaire owner is said to be purging nearly 50 percent of the social media company's staff. The Boulder office is expected to absorb some of those layoffs. (Ground)
  4. Do you have what it takes to be the next Colorado Poet Laureate? Nominations for the next Colorado Poet Laureate opened this week and you can nominate your favorite poet through Feb. 1, 2023. The governor selects the Colorado Poet Laureate, who then serves a four-year term and does lots of activities and events around the state. (Colorado)
  5. 100+ car pile-up in Denver closed 6th Avenue both ways on Friday morning. Sixth Avenue was closed in both directions between Kalamath Street and Federal Boulevard because of slick roads that caused nearly 100 cars to smash into each other. It appears that there were no drivers with life-threatening injuries caused by the pileup. (Patch)
