BROOMFIELD, CO — A Colorado nurse says she was fired from her job after taking an unpaid leave of absence to help patients in New York City amid the new coronavirus pandemic, according to a report by KVDR.
Mallory Mehl decided to join a New York City crisis response team after the Broomfield clinic where she worked grew quiet — only a few patients were coming in each day amid the COVID-19 outbreak, KVDR reported.

Mehl said her employer initially supported her decision to take the unpaid leave, but then she received a letter asking her to resign, and when she declined, she was fired, according to the report.
