Car Double-Shooting Victims IDed In Co. Springs

Serena Lee Garcia, 21 was identified after being found shot dead in a car with Marcus Denton, 20, of Achison, KS.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Colorado Springs police identified the two people found dead in a parked car in a double homicide last week in Colorado Springs. The woman was identified as Parker nursing student Serena Lee Garcia, 21. Marcus Howard Denton, 20, was identified as the male victim of the shooting.

Nashid Rayon Rivers, 19, is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Garcia and Denton. Police found the two victims dead in a parked car in the 300 block of Bergamo Way (Bergamo Way and Lower Gold Camp Road) on April 21, 2018.

Garcia was a student at University of Colorado Colorado Springs, according to her Facebook page.

"I know she wants everybody to keep their head up right now but it's just hard," her cousin Trevor Pellegrin told Channel13 news. "I'm still at a loss for words."

Denton, originally from Atchison, Kansas, was remembered by friends and family as a young man who loved music, baseball and ice cream. Denton was living in Colorado Springs when he was killed.

"He would light up my whole world," said a girlfriend, Lauren Pierce to local MSC News.

colorado Springs police reported the two deaths were the eighth and ninth reported by CSPD so far in 2018. The City of Colorado Springs had 12 homicides at this time last year.

This continues to be an active investigation, police said.
