Blooming Friendships: Seniors with Dementia and Students Plant Garden

Spring hasn’t sprung until the residents at Chelsea Place, an Anthem Memory Care community, get their hands dirty. The gardeners shared their love of mother earth with some very special friends from Aurora’s Regis Jesuit High School. Over a dozen students joined them for a day of building flower boxes, planting flowers, vegetables and herbs at Chelsea Place, located at 14055 E. Quincy Ave., Aurora.

“There’s something magical about being able to grow your own vegetables and flowers,” said Jeannie Combs, life engagement director for Chelsea Place. “This was a wonderful way for our residents to share their passion with the next generation. It’s also a great way to reminisce about their past, while building new connections and friendships with the students.”
