Child Custody Issues During COVID-19

The Coronavirus outbreak has impacted every aspect of our lives, including legal matters.

Wondering how the stay at home orders and the pandemic affect your divorce or child custody case? According to Denver family law attorney Stephen Plog, the courts have not established any directives to how custody agreements should be handled during the pandemic. So your case will likely have to be discussed with a lawyer to determine how to apply the custody rules during the COVID-19 outbreak. It may be difficult to travel from one parent's home to the other, but if the other parent lives in the same city and it's possible to travel from one place to the other safely, then it's best to do so to avoid violating the custody order.

This is a difficult time filled with uncertainties, including in the legal industry. Most courts have closed their doors but continue to work via online filings, remote hearings and have postponed or cancelled in-person hearings to protect the safety of their staff and community. However, law firms across the country also continue to work remotely and are available to discuss important issues with existing and new clients.

If you have a pending legal issue it is best to consult with your attorney about how the pandemic will impact your case.
